Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty Surgery)

The lower eyelids are one of the first areas of the face to show dramatic aging.  The skin begins to slacken, muscles start to droop, and skin tissues around the eyes weaken.  Shadowy hollows appear below the eyes, while bags and excess fat appear more prominent.  Loss of elasticity, in the upper eyelid, creates a crepey appearance while the lid actually descends downward to rest on the eyelashes - negatively affecting vision.  Dr. Cole performs Eyelid Tuck surgery to correct these problems and to restore a more youthful, refreshed, rested and vital appearance to the eyes.

The eyes are the most engaging and colorful attraction of the face – inviting eyes are essential to a youthful appearance…

BENEFITS OF EYELID (Blepharoplasty) SURGERY:

  • Eyelid Surgery eliminates loose or sagging skin around the eyes
  • Eyelid Surgery restores the natural contour to the upper eyelid
  • Eyelid Surgery eliminates upper eyelid excess skin that impairs vision
  • Eyelid Surgery removes fat that causes puffiness in the upper lids
  • Eyelid Surgery corrects bags & droopiness & excess skin of the lower eyelids
  • Eyelid Surgery is typically combined with other age-erasing procedures
EYELID PROCEDURE:
An incision is made in the crease of your upper eyelid – well hidden.  Dr. Cole works through this to reposition and/or remove fat, tighten muscles and tissue and remove excess skin if needed.  The lower eyelid incision is also well hidden and the same process is repeated.  This procedure creates firmer, more youthfully contoured eyelids.  Ointment and a gauze dressing may be applied to your eyes.

There are some limitations to an Eyelid Blepharoplasty. It will not correct fine wrinkles from Crow’s Feet nor fix partially descended eyebrows. For these and other reasons, many patients choose to combine their Eyelid Tuck with another age erasing procedure for optimal results.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

What Does Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty) Achieve?
Eyelid Surgery removes excess fat, skin and muscle from the lower and upper eyelids to restore a more youthful, vital appearance to the eyes.  Removal of excess skin also improves vision for patients with excess drooping skin of the upper-eyelids - when this interferes with vision.

What Anesthesia Is Used For Eyelid Surgery?
Local anesthesia with sedation is most commonly used.

Where Will Dr. Cole Perform My Blepharoplasty Surgery?
Your surgery will be performed in our world class, state-of-the-art JCAHO accredited surgery center. This surgery center is certified and fully equipped with the most advanced technologies and is able to handle any situation that may arise.

Will I Have Scars From Eyelid Surgery?
Yes.  You will have scars, but they are well hidden since Dr. Cole makes the incisions within the normal creases and folds of the eyelids.

Will Eyelid Surgery Eliminate Crow’s Feet?
No.  Eyelid surgery corrects the eyelids only.  A Browlift/Forehead lift is used to correct crow’s feet, sagging eyebrows, furrows and wrinkles.

Will Eyelid Surgery Eliminate Dark Under-Eye Circles?
No.  You may notice slight improvement but Dr. Cole recommends laser resurfacing and/or chemical peels to correct dark circles.

What Is Recovery Like After Eyelid Surgery?
Bruising, swelling and mild discomfort are normal for a few days.  If you just have this procedure done – you should be able to return to work in 7 – 10 days.  Any discoloration from bruising can be easily concealed with Jane Iredale mineral make-up which actually aids in the healing process.  You must avoid rigorous, strenuous activities for 1-2 weeks and sleep with your head elevated to minimize swelling.

Will Insurance Cover Eyelid Surgery?
NO.  Insurance does not cover cosmetic procedures unless they are medically necessary.  Check with your insurance co after talking with Dr. Cole. Financing is also available today for these procedures.  Ask about it in our business office.
