Chin Augmentation
As we age the chin begins to look different due to skin that sags, fat that accumulates and bone that is lost. This weakens the appearance of the chin and overall facial harmony is lost. The chin is one of three distinct facial components that work together to present an attractive – youthful appearance. The eyes and nose are the other components that evidence visible aging. When one area loses its youthfulness it distracts from the overall appearance. A weak, recessed chin can make the nose appear larger than it is and create the illusion of a short neckline. Men, in particular, with recessed chins may falsely be perceived as being weak or timid. Dr. Cole recommends chin augmentation with implants to correct a weak chin and to restore facial balance and harmony. Often, Chin Augmentation is done in combination with a FaceLift in order to achieve dramatic improvements and optimum results.

ABOUT IMPLANTS:
Facial implants are made from a variety of materials that include bone and synthetic materials like Dacron, silicone and Teflon. Chin implants come in a variety of sizes and shapes that allow for a customized fit for each individual need. Solid implants are commonly employed to enhance the contours of the chin and jaw line to help offset the signs of aging.
CHIN AUGMENTATION PROCEDURE:
For chin implant surgery Dr. Cole makes a small incision inside the mouth along the lower lip or under the chin area. The scars are well concealed in either case. A pocket is created in the chin and the customized implant is carefully placed into position. Sutures close the incision. This takes from 30 minutes to an hour or longer if you’re having it done in combination with another anti-aging procedure. Some discomfort, swelling and bruising is normal and to be expected. This usually resolves in 5-7 days on its own. Tape and/or bandages will be used on the chin to minimize swelling and a strap may be employed to keep the implant in place while the tissues heal.
